Disney Video

I chose to write my blog this week about the Disney video we watched. I believe that this taught me and everyone else in the class a great lesson about copyright. I think using Disney films made us interested not only in the video itself but the message it was putting forth about copyright. I think that copyright is a very important subject, and the person who made that Disney video used copyright in the right way. Doing that also helped us to understand the message he was trying to get across to us. I think that the way he used all the Disney characters the way he did was a very unique and useful way of getting a message across.  All of the clips were from different Disney clips, and they weren’t but like 5 second clips. This meant we really had to pay attention to what each character was saying in what scene and put it all together in the end to come across the actual message. This video really taught me a valuable lesson about copyright, and it also used some of my favorite things in the world, Disney cartoons. Using the cartoons and clips from different Disney movies can really speak out to many different audiences. I am a college student, and I still love cartoons. Other people, such as freshmen in high school, or even as young as fifth graders, could relate to this message and understand this message. They would get enjoyment out of this video as well as a very valuable lesson that can be used for the rest of their lives. I personally loved this video.

  1. I agree, the video had a strong message to it and used perhaps the strongest medium to get their message across. There is no better way to get across the point that copyright laws are made to protect what people create but that does not mean that there are not acceptable ways to use what others have created. Having had to prove this several times with videos I have created, I think one of the biggest factors in copyright is the motive behind the borrowed material. If the borrowed material does not negatively affect the commercial value of the work, there will be no problem with the use of the material. Granted this isn’t the only stipulation behind this law but it is the big one. So as long as you aren’t trying to sell whatever it is that you borrowed as your own work, you pretty much can be assured that you’ll be ok.
